Gandhi / Indian Nationalism
Gandhi believed in civil disobedience and nonviolence. He believed that refusing to obey an unjust law and not fighting back when the British became violent was the only way for the British to see themselves as the aggressors and criminals. Only when the British saw themselves as the aggressors, would they leave India and grant Indians independence. Three events during Gandhi’s life demonstrate Indian nationalism and India’s willingness to practice Gandhi’s teachings.
Task:
Explain how each of the following events demonstrates Indian nationalism and the fight for independence. While explaining the events include what sacrifice the Indians needed to make in order to achieve their goal.
